PICKERINGTON, Ohio (June 2, 2006) – Pickerington North graduate Tom Gianneschi signed
a letter of intent Friday in front of friends, family and staff – committing to
Urbana University to further his academic and golf career. Urbana Coach Scott
Knick is pleased to announce Gianneschi as an addition to the Blue Knights.
“Tom is a go-getter and a
dedicated golfer,” said Knick. “He hits the ball long which should help him
adjust at the college level. He is a great addition to our team, both as a
golfer and a person. I’m excited to see his growth over the next four years.”
Gianneschi was a team captain this season for Coach Casey Milligan at
Pickerington North. He was named team MVP after advancing to the District
tournament. He also led his squad to the Sectional tournament appearance.
“Tom’s strengths lie in
his length and his work ethic,” said Milligan. “His best golf is still ahead of
him because he can refine his short game and work on consistency. His willingness
to work hard will give him the opportunity to excel at the next level.
“He is an outstanding
young man,” he added. “He has such a high desire to succeed and if he keeps
those principles in tact, he’ll do well at whatever he chooses in life.”
Gianneschi is excited about making the jump to the next level.
“It feels like everything
I have been working for is coming true,” he said. “I was saddened by the end of
my high school career this season, but with this new opportunity, I’m so
excited about the prospect of playing college golf.
“I hope to produce every
time I go out to play,” added Gianneschi. “I want my score to matter and do the
best I can for the team and help them be more competitive.”
Tom is the son of Wynn Gianneschi and Kathy Gianneschi, both of Pickerington,
Ohio.
“I would like to thank
coach Casey for all he has done to help me grow as a golfer. He made this
opportunity a reality,” said Gianneschi. “I would also like to thank my father
(Wynn). He has always pushed me when I needed it. He has always supported me as
well.”
