Panther Quarterback

Meeting Minutes

May 8, 2006

Opening Remarks –Meeting called to order by Don Gordon.  Minutes from March meeting approved.

*No meeting was held in April.

Coaches Report –Coach Bahen – Coach introduced Coach Nick Kyros from Big Season. Coach Kyros explained a Speed Development Program that he has put together for our players.  The cost is $3000 for a 4-week program (3 days per week, 2 hours per day, from June 26 – July 21).  Coach Kyros currently works with the Capital University football program and has 25+ years experience coaching.  The program will focus on improving athletic/game speed for our players.  The training will include teaching proper lifting/spotting techniques, speed drills on the field, & coaches training.  After the 4-week program is complete, Coach Kyros will be available to our program for additional help in the future at no additional charge.  Attending club members asked questions to Coach Kyros about his experience and area of expertise in speed training.  After questions were answered Coach Kyros left the meeting in order for members to discuss the program.  Coach Bahen feels very strongly that the Speed Development Program that Nick Kyros/Big Season has put together will strengthen our football team.  A motion to approve the $3000 expense for the speed program was voted and approved by the majority of members in attendance.

Additional Coach Report- a new Defensive Coordinator has been hired.  We currently have approximately 50 players in the weight room program and expect 60-70 in attendance after spring sports are complete.

Secretary Report – Minutes from March club meeting were approved. Motion by, Luann Shumate, seconded by Heidi Schone, motion carried. Christy still has the Kroger fundraising cards if anyone would like them. She will make an example for members of how the gift card program works to raise money for the club.  This will help members better understand how easy it is to participate at no cost to them.

Treasurer Report – Dave Lawler (absent)- Don Gordon distributed a copy of treasurer report to those in attendance.  Copy of Bingo report was distributed.     Motion to approve Treasurer report by Jerry Schone, seconded by Bill Stevens, motion carried.

Old Business:

Bingo – Bingo is going very well.  The 7th & 8th grade parents have been very helpful in working bingo.

New Business:

Golf Outing:  The annual Panther Football Golf Outing date has been changed from August 19 to August 5, 2 p.m. @ The Landings Golf Course.  The date was changed due to the girls basketball club having their annual outing on August 18th and some of them felt it was a conflict.  Alicia Reed will call Phone Tree reps to inform them of the event.  We will need volunteers to solicit donations and work the outing.  We will need items donated for door prizes and the raffle. Wayne Campbell is the golf outing coordinator.

Pizza Sale:  The annual pizza sale has begun.  Some members stated that they have not had a call from the pizza sale representative to place an order.  Christy Campbell will contact the company with an updated phone list.

Meeting Attendance:  Meeting attendance continues to be very low.   The number of football parents is approximately 400 and less then 10 people attend the meetings, including the officers. This is a constant frustration among those who attend the meetings.  A discussion about how to improve attendance will continue.

Senior Poster:  Heidi Schone volunteered to contact senior parents about getting started on the poster.  It will, again, be done at no cost to the QB Club by soliciting sponsors.

Weight Room Signs:  Wayne Campbell has coordinated incentive boards for the weight room.  The boards will acknowledge players for their efforts in the weight room.  The boards will cost approx. $500 and will say “Donated by Panther QB Club”.  A motion to approve this expense, majority vote approved.

Misc. Info:   Game Stats - Ben Assman will continue to do stats for our games on his laptop in the upcoming season.   However we need a new printer for Ben to use.  Don Gordon suggested that we could share this expense with the Lacrosse team to purchase a new printer.  Mike Boren suggested that possibly someone could donate a printer.  Mike will contact Ben Assman to find out the type of printer that is compatible with his laptop. Mike may have a printer to donate.    Game filming - We have a need for 1-2 additional inexpensive camcorders to tape Junior High games.  We have had a conflict last season with games on the same day and not having the use of a camcorder for one of them.  We will discuss this at future meetings.   Senior Paw Prints – Senior Moms will paint paw prints in August before our first game.

Motion to adjourn by Alicia Reed, seconded by Wayne Campbell, motion carried.

Dates to remember:  Next meeting June 14 @ 7p.m. H.S. Commons.

Respectfully Submitted,

Christy Campbell
