ATHLETIC DIRECTORS REPORT (Mark)

Boy’s Volleyball- Coach Truex

Presently 8-2, 1-0 in the OCC. Currently ranked 2nd in the region. 24 boys in the high school volleyball program; have also started a junior high boy’s program. Hosting tournaments this weekend, both high school and junior high. Coach Truex is very excited about the number of boys participating.

Boy’s Baseball- Coach Aprile

Currently 10-2, 3-1 in OCC. JV’s are 11-1, Freshmen are 8-5. They have 5 home games scheduled this coming week. Mark also thanked Booster Club for their support.

Mark reports that the outdoor athletic facilities have come a long way. Baseball and softball fields are much improved. He is working on budget for next year. He reports that for 2004 we are under budget for projected expenses, but the end of May will be the key point as far as budget goes. He should have the 2005 budget done by the June meeting.

Paul Smithberger

Pickerington Chamber of Commerce is getting involved with the Holiday Classic, to bring the teams into hotels in Pickerington. Pickerington Central will play in the classic, in an opposite bracket from North. The Chamber will get involved in helping the Classic get sponsors. They have requested that we join the chamber for $100. Motion made by Lisa DeCarlo, seconded by Sherry Speers. Motion carried. She will also be helping getting the shed built for softball.

CONCESSION REPORT

Paul reports that concessions is a big job, and we will get through spring, but we need someone to chair the concessions. Paul is requesting that each club get more people involved in the general Booster Organization- especially concessions and fund raising. Please bring back names and ideas to the next meeting. Ed Geers suggested that maybe concessions stocking should be delegated by season: fall, winter and spring. Lisa DeCarlo feels that it should be a paid position. Discussion was started by Greg Boone as to why the smaller clubs don’t take their concessions back, so only fall (football and soccer) and winter (basketball and wrestling) needs to be focused on. We will form a committee to look at restructuring the concessions, but we need to find a volunteer or two to head the concessions. Don Gordon, Terry Payne, Lisa DeCarlo and Paul Smithberger will meet in early May to make a proposal and present it at the May meeting.

Lisa reports that the golf cart that has been lent to us has really come in handy, and if the lending is revoked, she thinks we should get a price to purchase it- it has been invaluable in hauling concessions, etc. Capital City Ice has put a container out at the softball complex, and we pay by the bag of ice used. It prevents people from hauling ice. Baseball thanked Lisa for getting the refrigerator for them so quickly.

Scholarhsip Committee

Booster Club usually provides a rep to sit on the committee to read through applications and give input to the scholarship committee- chaired by Kim Householder. Ed Geers volunteered to be the rep from Booster Club- thanks Ed!!

Entertainment Book sales brought up by Paul. It is a quick money maker, and should be looked into by the fundraising committee.

Bingo- Don Gordon

Attorney General requested additional information. Quarterback Club is waiting for their reply.

Mark Aprile suggested that Jerry Moore be recognized for his years of service to the Booster’s organization (over 20 years). There is an athletic pass that can be given to him, or at least some type of recognition. Motion made by Greg Boone and seconded by Lisa DeCArlo to get him a lifetime pass, motion approved.

Meeting adjourned at  8:23pm. Next meeting Sunday May 15th at  7:30pm.
